Being a Witch

In many of the ritual it tells you to take a bath and cleanse yourself, I only have a shower. My second questions is about cats, as a witch do you have to have one ? I love cats and they will come to me my only problem is I’m allergic to them. I only had one cat many years ago that I could be around he was white with blue eyes. Thank you I be looking for your answer.

Hello there my dear, Asking how you know if you are a witch is very similar to asking how you know if you are a Catholic… or a Muslim… or a member of any other faith or religion for that matter. Which is to say, there is no “witch litmus test” as such, just as there is no “Christianity litmus test”…. Being a witch is a matter of faith and belief, just like with any other system of beliefs. Being a witch is about a lot more than simply casting spells. It is much like any other system of beliefs in that the trappings and rituals are only small portions of the overall whole. And thus, much like taking the Eucharist does not make you a Catholic, intoning a spell does not make you a witch…. Becoming a practitioner of the wise craft requires a very real level of commitment and dedication. It is neither a quick, nor easy road to undertake and I would never suggest it to anyone who is going to take it lightly. So, if you think you might be interested in one of the many belief systems associated with being a witch (I personally am a wiccan) then I would suggest you take the time to do a bit of research and learn a bit about the dogma of the beliefs…. Perhaps look for a bookstore in your local town that caters to such things and go and speak to the people there about their experiences and how they went about finding their faith….

I really LOVE the answer that you gave! I am a witch myself and committed myself to a year and day of study! You know what that taught me? It taught me that I would always be learning and always be studying – LOL! My witch “religion” – or I should say path – is that of hedgewitch. I do like aspects of the Wicca religion but I initially started getting into witch and witchcraft specifically for the craft! I didn’t want to be a hypocrite and just say that I was in it for the spirituality of it – I was in it for the craft! But now that I have been on my path / journey for 5 years now I have also come to find out that it is not all about spells – which you have said yourself.

I have had cats even before I took my witch path and personally speaking I LOVE baths but you can also “cleanse” yourself in the shower. Baths are just a way of relaxing for me personally.

Just to continue on my answer I am a solitary witch but I haven’t ruled out investigating different covens and such.
