How do I set up my altar?

Hi, rose, I’m having a problem setting up my alter…………. I don’t know how or what to do, will you help me? ty, Doyle your young apprentes

Merry Meet Doyle, I am happy to hear that you are seriously considering witchcraft. As you are aware, your altar is your sacred space where Magick energy is gathered, focused and sent out to accomplish your goals. It also acts as a protection wall against negative forces that may disrupt your concentration and rituals. Since this is all about what you need, you have to think deeply and visualize the altar before you set out to build it. Are you an outdoor person or an indoor person? If you like being in the outdoors and you can easily access the outdoors and have your private time there, you can choose to build an outdoors altar. Some people create one inside the house and one outside. For others, the beach or a riverbank becomes their outdoor altar. The advantage of the outdoors is that the energy is calm and positive most of the time. Indoors, man made materials may cause pollution and it may be difficult to focus on our intentions. However, regardless of where you build your altar, it is your focus and attention that is most important to the success of your work. The altar should represent who YOU are, what you stand for and what inspires you. The more you emote, the more powerful your spells will be. To gather emotion for the spells, you will need items on the altar that inspires you. Keep the area clean at all times. The sacred space around the circle (about nine feet in diameter) should be always kept clean of debris. Thoroughly cleanse the room with sea salt and water. Scrub down the walls and the ceiling if needed to remove the cobwebs, dust and other objects. Determine the North, South, East and West of the room using a compass. Mark the directions with some colored chalk or paint. The altar should face the North direction. Mark your circle on the ground (it can be as many feet in diameter as you need) and line it with cord or a number of candles or figurines. Remember to cleanse the entire area with water that you charge with your energies. Use natural wooden tables if you wish for they will add to the positive energy in the room. Add figurines or candles representing the female deity on the left and the male deity on the right. Add other items that are sacred to you around the deities. Use your imagination and collect items that mean something special and can invoke strong emotions in you. Remember to close the circle starting with the East direction and going clockwise all the way around the circle. When you open it, go in the opposite direction. Enjoy your magickal work. Brightest Blessings. Rose.
