am i gonna be a charmed one with all the powers in the world and am i gonna be the powerfulest witch in the world

Someone’s been watching too much television, I think.  “Charmed” is very fun and exciting for what it is:  fiction.  It’s a great story.  It is not Wicca.  Unfortunately, there are far more people who know of “Charmed” than who really know what Wicca is about.  Maybe I can help clarify some differences.

First off, Wicca is a religion; as one Seeker put it, a “beautiful” religion.  It is a way of connecting with the Universe.  There are different “sects”, much as there are Baptists, Catholics, etc in the Christian religion.  There are solitary practitioners and members of Covens who worship in groups.  There is no “Power of Three” except for the rule of three — every action that you choose to take, be it positive or negative, will come back to you three times over.  This insures that Wiccans think before they act, and act in only a beneficial manner.  The Wiccan Rede says, basically, “If it Harms None, do what Ye will.”  This means that Wiccans don’t use black or grey magick, because to do so would be harmful to another, and ultimately to the one casting.

It’s interesting how many people wish to know only “spells” to achieve a specific result — such as “power” — without wanting to go to the bother of learning the religion.  I hardly think you would approach a Catholic priest with the same ideas.  “Father, I want power, wealth, health, and a mate from your God, but I don’t wanna read that book of yours, or learn your religion.  Just give me some words to say, and I’m out of here.”  I can imagine how THAT would go over!

Wicca is about life-long learning, connecting, and giving.  It is about finding and identifying our strengths so we may help others.  Yes, wealth, happiness, and love may follow.  They often do when we put others first.

Blessed Be.
