How do I know that my Witch Name that I selected is the right one for me?

In some Wiccan traditions, a Witch doesn t receive a witch name until a second-degree initiation, and then it may only be used among coven members. A witch name can be a secret name between you, the Goddess, and the coven. As a Solitary, you can keep it between yourself and the Goddess. This may mean having two witch names, one for the net and a secret name. Although, it is easier to use one name. 

So how do we go about choosing a name?

A witch name should mean something to you, rather than just grabbing one out of the air because it sounds nice. Where should you look for one? Here are some suggestions. All your life you have wanted to be called by a different name. You may want to use this one as it will have some meaning to you.

Otherwise, names can be found in mythology. Some suggestions from mythology might be Rhiannon, Iris, Lir, Apollo, or Epona. From literature or legend you could use Merlin, Gawain, or Elaine. In addition, you can use names from the fairy world, such as Titania, Sprite, or Pixie. Moon names are popular too, such as Moonchild and Walking Moon.

This is one technique that you can use to verify if you have the right witch name.

Numerological Formula for Names

1. How to find your Birth Number.

Add all the numbers of your birthdate.

Example: March 10, 1954 = 3+1+0+1+9+5+4 = 23

Bring down the final two digits (23) and add together.

Example: 2+3 = 5

5 is the Birth Number.

2. Now to find out if the name you have choosen is appropriate for you.

Alphabet and number equation.

Now by using the chart above calulate the name you have choosen by adding the letters and final sum.

Example: name = DIANA, D = 4, I = 9, A = 1, N = 5, A = 1
4 + 9 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 20

Bring down the sum and add:
2 + 0 = 2 2 is the Name number.

Now your birth number is 5 so you will need to add a letter equivilate to 3 (C, L, U) or you could add 2 letters, (one equivulate to 1 (A,J,S) and one equivulate to 2 ( B, K, T).
Example: Dilana = 4 + 9 + 3 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 23, 2 + 3 = 5
; Diakana = 4 + 9 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 23, 2 + 3 = 5

If you don’t like any of the names that the are created to equal 5, try another name.

This is just one technique to find a name that is suitable for you.
